Noorani Qaida Online Course for Kids and Adults

Our Noorani Qaida online course is the usual starting point for complete beginners. It takes a complete beginner, child or adult, from the first letter of the Arabic alphabet to reading words and short verses straight from the Mushaf. Every class is live and one-on-one, so the teacher hears each letter you say and fixes it on the spot.

Noorani Qaida is a small booklet, but it carries a lot. Each lesson adds one new idea and builds on the one before it. Skip a step and the cracks show up later, usually as reading mistakes that are hard to undo. That is why we teach it slowly and properly, with a teacher who has taught this book many times over.

Who this course is for

  • Children from about 4 years old. Short classes, lots of repetition and plenty of praise. Most young kids study 20 to 30 minutes at a time.
  • Adults who never learned to read Arabic. A lot of adults feel shy about starting so late. There's no need: nobody is judged here. You'll get a patient teacher and a pace that suits you.
  • New Muslims who want to read the Quran in the language it was revealed in.
  • Students who already read, but with mistakes. Going back through the Qaida with a good teacher is the fastest way to fix weak pronunciation.

You do not need to speak Arabic to take this course. The Qaida teaches reading and correct sounds, not vocabulary, and your teacher explains everything in English.

What you will learn

We follow the order of the book, lesson by lesson. A typical path looks like this:

Stage 1: The letters and their sounds

The 29 Arabic letters, each from its correct point of articulation (makhraj). This is where English speakers meet sounds they have never made before, like ع, ح, ق and ض. We spend real time here, because everything else stands on it.

Stage 2: Joined letters and the opening letters of surahs

How each letter changes shape at the start, middle and end of a word, and how to read the disjointed letters such as الم and حم.

Stage 3: Short vowels and tanween

Fatha, kasra and damma, then the double vowels that add an "n" sound at the end of a word. By now the student is reading short syllables on their own.

Stage 4: Long vowels, sukoon and shaddah

Stretching sounds with alif, waw and yaa, reading a letter with no vowel, and doubling a letter. This is the point where real Quranic words start to flow.

Stage 5: Putting it together

Mixed practice from the last lessons of the Qaida, plus a gentle first look at Tajweed: the nasal sound (ghunnah) and how long to stretch a madd. The course ends with reading short verses from Juz' Amma.

How a class works

Each class starts with a quick review of the last lesson. Then the teacher reads the new line, you repeat it, and you read it again alone. The teacher listens to every letter and corrects it straight away, before a mistake turns into a habit.

Classes run on Zoom or Google Meet. The teacher shares the Qaida page on screen and points to each letter as you read, which helps young children a lot. You can also follow along in your own printed copy.

Parents get a short progress report every month that shows which lessons are done, what needs more practice and what comes next.

How long does Noorani Qaida take?

It depends mostly on how often you study. As a rough guide:

Classes per week Children (4 to 7) Older kids and adults
2 6 to 9 months 4 to 6 months
3 4 to 6 months 3 to 4 months
5 3 to 4 months 2 to 3 months

Ten minutes of reading at home between classes makes a bigger difference than an extra class. Your teacher will tell you exactly which lines to practise.

After the Qaida

Once the Qaida is finished, students usually move on to reading the Quran itself with our Tajweed course, or start memorizing short surahs in the Quran memorization program. Your teacher will suggest the next step based on how you read in the final test.

If you prefer the Noor Al-Bayan method, which some families find more visual, see our Quran reading course. Both books reach the same goal.

Frequently asked questions

What age can my child start Noorani Qaida? Most children are ready at around 4 or 5, once they can sit and focus for 15 to 20 minutes. In the free trial, the teacher checks whether your child is ready and suggests the right class length.

I am an adult. Is it too late to learn? No. Adults often move faster than children because they understand the explanations. With three classes a week, many adults finish the Qaida in three or four months.

Do I need to buy the book? No. The teacher shares the pages on screen in every class. A printed copy is still handy for practice at home.

What is the difference between Noorani Qaida and Noor Al-Bayan? Both teach a beginner to read the Quran. Noorani Qaida is the older, widely used booklet. Noor Al-Bayan is a newer method with more pictures and drills. We teach both, and the teacher can help you choose.

Can I choose a female teacher? Yes. Female teachers are available for sisters and for children.
